Maradona to stand for FIFA presidency

Diego Maradona,54, will stand for the presidency of scandal-tainted FIFA presidency, a Uruguayan journalist who presents a television show with the Argentine soccer legend, said Monday.
"'I am candidate' are the words that Diego Maradona used when "I am a candidate' were the two words Diego Maradona used to answer me when I consulted him about the nomination for the presidency of Fifa," journalist Victor Hugo Morales said on Twitter.
Maradona has long been a trenchant critic of Blatter and last month said he was "enjoying" the corruption scandal that led the Swiss to announce he would stand down at an extraordinary congress of football's world governing body.
World soccer's governing body has been rocked by two multinational corruption investigations launched by US and Swiss authorities.
Former Brazilian star Zico and Liberian soccer federation president Musa Bility have already declared themselves candidates.
Maradona might struggle to get the support of federations from five countries, as required under Fifa statutes.
