Fayose Regain Freedom From EFCC Custody

Former governor of Ekiti state, Peter Ayodele Fayose, , has regained freedom after 13 days in custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to his media aide, Lere Olayinka, he appeared at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, on Tuesday, and was granted freedom after fulfilling the conditions of his bail application.

Fayose, who is facing trial for alleged money laundering and abuse of office, walked into the commission’s head office in Abuja on October 16, meaning he was in detention for 13 days.
He is expected to return for the continuation of his trial on November 19, 2018.

'Woman blows herself up' in Tunis

A woman blew herself up in the centre of Tunisia's capital today, according to reports on national state radio. The apparent suicide bomb was detonated in a district of Tunis close to museums and hotels.

Police cordoned off central Habib Bourguiba Avenue after the explosion echoed around the city at lunchtime. A theatre, a shopping centre and several Western hotels line the street, which is close to government ministries and the French embassy.
It is not yet known if anyone apart from the bomber was hurt, but ambulances could be heard rushing to the scene.
Witness Mohamed Ekbal bin Rajib told Reuters: "I was in front of the theatre and heard a huge explosion and saw people fleeing."

Nigeria Amputee Football Team Thrashed 6-0 In First World Cup Game

Nigeria's amputee football team lost their opening match 6-0 to Brazil at the 2018 World Cup in Mexico on Sunday.

Seven of the Special Eagles' squad only landed in the city of San Juan de Los Lagos a few hours before.
The team will play Russia and El Salvador in their other group matches later this week. Ghana, Kenya, Liberia and Angola are the continent's other representatives in Mexico.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, the Super Eagles squad as well as the country's former vice-president Atiku Abubakar made significant financial contributions to get the squad to the city of San Juan de Los .

The Special Eagles will battle World Cup defending champions Russia who had beaten El Salvador 4-0 in their opening game, while Brazil takes on El Salvador for their second game of the group.

However, Angola showed what they are made of with a 4-0 spanking of Ukraine whereas Kenya fell 4-1 to former champions Turkey.

Lion Air plane crash

A Lion Air Boeing 737 passenger plane with 189 people including 1 child and 2 infants as well as 6 cabin crew members and 2 pilots on board has crashed into the sea shortly after taking off from the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

The Flight JT 610  took off from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, greater Jakarta, at 6:21 a.m. local time, and had been due to land at around 7:30 a.m. in Pangkal Pinan, the largest city on Bangka.

 

Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said there were 20 ministry officials on board, who were returning to their posts in Pangkal Pinang after spending the weekend with their families in Jakarta for a public holiday.

Rescuers have recovered bodies from the sea and families are being told to go to hospital to identify the dead. Items belonging to passengers have also been found in the water, including baby shoes, ID cards and luggage.

Lion Air acquired the aircraft in August and it had flown only 800 hours, said Soerjanto Tjahjono, head of the National Transport Safety Committee (NTSC).

Manufacturer Boeing released a statement saying the company was "deeply saddened" by the loss of flight JT 610.

"We express our concern for those on board, and extend heartfelt sympathies to their families and loved ones," the statement said.
