Former heavyweight Mike Tyson champion prevented from entering Chile

Chilean police have prevented former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson from entering the country, citing non-compliance with immigration laws and were putting him on a flight home, the Investigative Police (PDI) said.

Local media reported that the 51-year-old ex-boxer was planning to attend an awards ceremony for action films taking place in Santiago, Chile's capital.
"Detectives from the International Police are re-boarding Mike Tyson for not complying with immigration law," the PDI said on its verified Twitter account on Thursday, alongside a photograph of Tyson walking in an airport with two individuals wearing PDI jackets.
The PDI did not specify which part of the law Tyson did not comply with, and did not immediately respond to an email and a phone call seeking additional information.
Tyson was stopped from entering the UK in 2013 because of previous convictions.
The two-time champion served three years of a six-year sentence imposed in 1992 for raping a teenage beauty-pageant contestant.

Texas execution of Ruben Cardenas Ramirez sparks row with Mexico

The state of Texas has executed a Mexican national, Ruben Cardenas Ramirez, sparking an outcry over his human rights.

He was pronounced dead at 22:26 after receiving a lethal injection.
He had been convicted of the 1997 kidnap, rape and murder of his 16-year-old cousin, Mayra Laguna.
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto condemned the execution, saying it violated a UN ruling on the treatment of Mexican prisoners in the US.
The sister of the murdered girl was quoted by AFP news agency as saying the execution had brought "true peace" to the family.
Texas has executed at least 500 prisoners since 1982.

Egypt bridegroom shot in genitals during celebrations

An Egyptian bridegroom has been seriously injured after he was hit by shotgun pellets fired by a guest celebrating his wedding.

The groom suffered serious injuries to his testicles, thigh and hand and is being treated in hospital.
Osman al-Alsaied, 28, was enjoying his last night being single when the weapon was accidentally fired at him rather than into the air.
Police say the gun was negligently fired by a 26-year-old man.
They say he fled soon after the incident but was later arrested and is now being questioned.

UCLA basketball players 'arrested in China for shoplifting'

Three US college basketball players have been arrested in China for shoplifting, according to US media.

Authorities believe the players shoplifted from a Louis Vuitton store near the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) team hotel outside of Shanghai. The Bruins are in China to play Georgia Tech on Saturday in the season opener. The players were arrested Tuesday after local law enforcement came to the team hotel and questioned both UCLA and Georgia Tech players before taking the three away. ESPN first reported the arrests.

UCLA freshmen LiAngelo Ball is a UCLA freshman from Chino Hills, California, and is the younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball. He is also the son of outspoken father and basketball sneaker entrepreneur LaVar Ball. The other two players are freshmen Cody Riley, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Jalen Hill, of Corona, California, according to a source.

LiAngelo Ball's father, former basketball player LaVar Ball, issued a statement to ESPN saying: "It is a very unfortunate situation that the Ball Family, and UCLA has to deal with at this particular time. We will comment shortly."

Michael Emenalo resigns from position as Chelsea's technical director

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo has stepped down from his post after 10 years with the club.

The 52-year-old, who played for Nigeria at the 1994 World Cup, joined Chelsea in 2007 under Avram Grant, for whom he played at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

He worked in both scouting and coaching departments at Chelsea before being promoted to technical director in 2011.

Emenalo, who played for Notts County in the 1990s and in the first MLS game, has been linked with a role at Monaco.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012, plus three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the League Cup and Europa League.

Pissarro's Picking Peas returned to Jewish owners

A French impressionist painting looted by the Nazis during World War Two has been restored to the Jewish family that once owned it.

A Paris court ordered the American couple to return a valuable Camille Pissarro painting to the descendants of Simon Bauer, an art collector.

Picking Peas was painted in 1887 by Camille Pissarro.

In 1943, it was confiscated under anti-Semitic laws passed by the collaborationist Vichy government during the German occupation of France.

Bauer, survived the war, but only because a strike by railwaymen stopped a train taking him to a concentration camp.

Lost to the family, Picking Peas was bought for $800,000 (€690,000) at auction in New York in 1995 by Bruce and Robbi Toll.
